I was recently contacted by a bootleg trader called Ericfg who has a sizeable collection of Judas Priest bootleg tapes he's collected since the 1980s and now wants to share them with the rest of the world. The deal is that instead of sending tapes or CDs back and forth, he digitizes the tapes at home and then sends the raw, unedited recordings to me by WeTransfer to which I apply whatever edits I see fit and then get them out to the rest of the bootleg world. No EQing by the way, I've learned my lesson from some previous uploads. Just track splitting, volume balancing and tape speed corrections if needed.
The first show in this series is the famous New York 1977 show, one of only two recordings known to exist from this tour (and for a long time the only one until the San Antonio show surfaced). This was sent to me by Ericfg just as a "systems check" to see that everything is working as it should. But when I first listened to this it was immediatedly clear that this version had much better sound quality than any of the previous versions I've heard. It seems that the original source is the same as in the previous versions considering the sudden quality improvement in the latter half of the show, but this seems to be a much lower generation copy, probably quite close to the master. Ericfg told me he's had this cassette since the mid-80s, and I actually found a Priest concert advertisement for a 1st November 1979 show right at the end of this recording so that's probably around when this copy was made. The only edits I made were the track splits and a slight reduction in speed, as the recording was clearly running too fast.
My bootleg list is here, if you want something else uploaded or can share something I don't have yet: http://nuppiz.webs.com/lossless-bootleg-list. I'm especially interested in any audio from the 1970s to 1991.
