This release is a significant upgrade to circulating copies of this show because it is a fresh transfer from the master done on July 31, 2014. The taper says no one has ever done a transfer from the master and that any circulating copies were made from traded cassettes and are therefore at least a generation down from this, perhaps more.
A very good recording with the only drawback being the Sony mic not really being able to handle the volume of the Priest onslaught. There is a bit of high end crackle from the mic diaphragms maxing out, though not very much, and not enough to spoil the show.
Speaking of the show, I though Rob only started the random high screams on the Turbo tour and peaked with the Ram It Down tour. This show is one of those shows where he was really confident in his singing and just shows off his high scream as often as possible, sounding a lot like he sounded a couple of years later. Drawbacks are Grinder and Some Heads Are Gonna Roll, two songs that Rob seemed to be having a hard time translating to live performance.
Although this date appears on several internet tour date lists as being the Philadelphia Spectrum, the taper assures me it was definitely the Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, and that he would never and has never taped in the Spectrum because it had crappy sound. Philadelphia may have been on the 23rd (as it appears on some lists) or may not have been played at all.
Three blank spots in the recording caused by technical difficulties, have been patched using the recording of the previous show on the 20th in Binghamton, NY. This was also recorded by the same taper with the same gear, and I used it for this reason, not to mention the remarkable similarity of the performances. These patches include a 3 second fill at 1:22 in Love Bites where the level adjustments at the start caused a dropout, patches from 1:18-1:24 and 2:09-2:12 in The Sentinel because there were blanks in those spots.
